Berlinale is Germany's most prestigious film festival and one of Europe's leading film festivals. Good quality English-language films often surface first here.
The festival was launched on 6 June 1951 - 2010 is the 60th anniversary.
Berlinale now attracts almost 20,000 professional guests, including 4,000 journalists each year.
As well as screenings, there is a film market, and "talent campus" for new filmmakers.
The most important prizes at the Berlinale are the Golden and Silver Bears - the bear also being the festival logo.
