The first major film festival of the calendar year worldwide and largest independent film festival in the States.

Sundance was originally set up in 1978 by Sterling Van Wagenen and John Earle with actor Robert Redford as Chairman, as a platform for the best independent film.

The festival has grown in stature over the years and is now guaranteed to create much buzz as Hollywood distributors and media beat a path to its snowy Utah doors to find cinema's next breakout such as Morgan Spurlock's Super Size Me and teen mother comedy Juno.

However, it still retains its original raison d'etre with emphasis on original work, independent drama, theatrical documentaries, and world cinema.
