Golden Globe Winners 2006

Hotly tipped Brokeback Mountain, directed by Ang Lee, won Best Film at the 63rd Golden Globe Awards last night. The gay cowboy film also won Best Screenplay, Best Original Song and Best Director for Lee.

Best Actor gong went to Philip Seymour Hoffman for Capote and Felicity Huffman, best known for Desperate Housewives, won Best Actress for Transamerica.

The Globes, often seen as indication of how the Academy Award decisions will go on 5th March, are awarded by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The 2006 Golden Globe Awards are for the year ended December 31, 2005.

The awards ceremony was seen as a triumph for smaller films over the studios, with the key nominations being for films under $30m (GBP16.9m).
